Preliminary trip. 18-th-21-st April 2012

Two of us - Maryan and Marius had a preliminary trip in the selected for research area. Day 1. 18.04. We met in Czernowitz and left by train to Boyan(i). We visited the monument build by the villagers in the memory of the repressed people. After that we went to the local administrative institution. But the Mayor and his secretary were at some seminary. The most interesting part was at school. We met with the History teacher and with director for studies. The last one showed us the place were is the house of a former teacher, who knows a lot about deportations and local history in general. We also had a short visit in Dranitsya, another chosen village.

Day 2. We spent time in Chisinau, capital of Moldova, at the distance of 260 km from Boyan.

Day 3. At 13 o'clock we were in Bricheny, a little town in the northen part of Moldova, where some 4000 inhabitants are Moldovans and some 4200 are UKrainians. We were at the Ukrainian school, which is situated far from center. The Director was busy and couldn't met with us but promissed to do it at the next occasion. Also there we identified a local newspaper in which we will publish out press release.

Day 4. We spent in Boyan(i). We met with the wife of the author of the history of Boyan(i). He died in 2000, and she published his book in 2006. She showed us a lot of pictures and told about the deportation to Onega lake region, where the father of her husband died ... In the second part of the day we met with another person who showed us books and told about the survivors. At the next meeting he will show us where one of them lives. At 15.40 I took a transport to the frontier of Moldova, and Maryan in the opposite direction, to Czerniwtsy.
