On the 10th of July the preliminary results of our project were presented at the 2012' Summer Session of Regional Seminar for Excellence in Teaching "Teaching Age of Extremes in the Age of Politics of History" (Chernivtsi region, Ukraine). Among those present there were participants of ReSet program - senior scholars and PhD students from Ukraine, Russia, Lithuania, Belarus, Armenia and Moldova, who mostly deal with studying and teaching the history of the XXth century, politics of memory and commemoration, as well as faculty core of the summer school including O. Betlii (Kyiv, Ukraine), K.Dysa (Kyiv, Ukraine), G.Kasianov (Kyiv, Ukraine), A.Miller (Moscow, Russia), S.Zhuk (Muncie, USA). We touched upon the Geschichtswerkstatt initiative, outlined the theoretical framework of our project, and presented the functioning of memory of World War II in the urban landscapes of Kharkiv and Rostov-on-Don focusing mostly on postwar city planning and reconstruction, burial places, monuments and other memorial signs, and toponymy.
