Crucial to the development of European remembrance cultures is an agreement about mutual topoi, which are interpreted differently but are similarly significant for the self-image of the respective local, regional and national cultures. The main focus of Geschichtswerkstatt Europa is the history of conflict in the 20th century. On behalf of the EVZ Foundation, Geschichtswerkstatt Europa looks in particular at how the consequences of the Second World War can be remembered from a European perspective. Other aspects of authoritarian and totalitarian violence in the 20th century will also be examined in order to place these conflicts in a broad historical context.
