European comparison

Geschichtswerkstatt Europa uses systematic comparison in conjunction with other methods, because it allows for a deeper analysis which moves beyond a purely national viewpoint. At the start of a project, the parameters are determined for a comparison of the similarities and differences of two cases, geographical locations or perspectives.

The potential danger of nationalisation when comparing two examples is not entirely avoided by Geschichtswerkstatt Europa. However, the individual projects attempt to acknowledge the process of cultural transfer, which reveals the inner dynamic or links between the two chosen examples and shapes their relationship to the theme of the investigation.
