Crimean Tatars: Remembrance of Deportation and the Young Generation

The central aspect of the project "Crimean Tatars: Remembrance of Deportation and the Young Generation" is to have a look at Crimean Tatar youth and to understand the character of their remembrance of the post-war deportation of this nation to Central Asia. The tragic post-war history of Crimean Tatars is an impressive example of suffering of a whole nation and definitely deserves to be studied as a European Path of Remembrance. In our project we would like to interview young Tatars of high school and student age to find out what role the memory of deportation plays in their life, how they have received these memories and how this remembrance influences their self-identification. The study of the remembrance of deportation among young Crimean Tatars is a good contribution to understanding the contemporary and future identity of Tatar community of Crimea.
