The world of the Hasidim is lost to the Bukovina, a region that was once the centre of Hasidic life. In towns such as Humań, Wyżnica, Kuty, Kosów, Kamieniec Podolski, Nowa Uszyca, Winnica or Sadagóra the manor houses of the Różyn-Sadagóra dynasty were erected. World War Two interrupted the continuity of Hasidic history in these places forever. The project "Discourse of internal and external memory about Hasidic culture in Bukovina" aims to research the awareness of this past in the places where the tzaddikim of the Sadagóra dynasty once resided. We take interest in the communication between inhabitants of these towns and the Hasidic pilgrims who continue to visit the places that, to them, are sacred. We wish to investigate the influence that this external memory has on the contemporary reality of the mentioned towns and whether it has an impact on the changing cultural life and economic progress there.
