The workshop was not the only outcome we had planned in our project, but we had the idea of having a regular film-screening in a cinema in Leipzig as well.

We were really lucky that the cooperation with the UT Connewitz worked out, which is the oldest cinema in Leipzig and one of the oldest in Germany. Today it is a venue for different cultural events, so there are film-festivals, concerts, other kind of performances etc. This year it is the 100th birthday of the UT, we say “Happy Birthday” and are really glad that we can screen our film-selection there. http://www.utconnewitz.de/

Tomorrow, 16th of May at 8 pm we start the series at the UT with Rossellini’s Germania Anno Zero (1948). This film is part of Rossellini’s famous neo-realistic war trilogy and will be introduced by Dr. Fernando Ramos Arenas who works at the University of Leipzig.

On 30th of May at 8 pm the next movie will be shown. Then we will have Ein Menschenschicksal by Sergei Bondarčuk (1959) introduced by one of us, Dr. Lars Karl. So, after the Italian view on post-war Berlin we will have the Soviet interpretation of returning home after the war.

On 6th of June at 8 pm we will have the next film screened, which will be Liebe 47 by Wolfgang Liebeneiner (1949). This adaption of the famous piece Draussen vor der Tür by Wolfgang Borchert will be presented to us by Andreas Kötzing, PhD-student at the Department of Modern History at the University of Leipzig.

And last but not least on 25th of June at 8 pm our last film will be shown. As last one we chose Menschen und Tiere by Sergei Gerasimov (1961). It is a Soviet-GDR co-production and less known, though Gerasimov was famous for his epic movie And Quiet Flows the Don. This last filmic example will be introduced by Pablo Fontana, PhD-student at the University of Buenos Aires.

Due to the fact that our film-screening is designed as educational event we got quite cheap licensing arrangements with the distributers what implies that we can have these film-screenings with the presentations for free for everyone.

We are really looking forward these four events, for those of you who would be interested to step by, please feel invited to do so!
